The immersive audio-documentary “Com Olhos de Ouvir” has received the prize for Best Digital Innovation in the first edition of SAPO Digital Media Awards, which took place at the Coliseu dos Recreios, in Lisbon.

“Com olhos de Ouvir” tells the story of Telmo Baldé, 22, who has been blind for three years due to a brain tumor. Now, Telmo is rehabilitating with ACAPO – Associação dos Cegos e Amblíopes de Portugal, and relearning to see the world by listening. For four months, Sónia Manzarra, an ACAPO technician, helped him walk the streets. She says that Telmo is almost “able to fly”.

“Com Olhos de Ouvir” is the first binaural audio-documentary broadcasted in the Portuguese radio. In an first-person experience, through 360 degree audio technology listeners can hear how Telmo hears. This immersive audio-documentary is an iNOVA Media Lab and Antena 1 co-production, by Rita Colaço and Paulo Castanheiro. We recommend using headphones for hearing it.
