iNOVA Media Lab receives POCH funding for digital transformation of basic education

The project REDs – Digital Educational Resources aims to design, create and pilot digital educational resources for the 1st cycle of Portuguese basic education in the areas of Science, Mathematics and Portuguese. The funding provided by Programa Operacional do Capital Humano (POCH), approximately 650.000 euros, will allow the development of the work plan over three years.

The Portuguese Ministry of Education has never developed a curriculum project to produce digital educational resources, validated scientifically and pedagogically, that can be useful to teachers and represent an added value in the development of more and better learning. The approved project is thus a pioneer in Portugal.

The initiative is in line with the objectives set by the European Commission (H2020) to improve the quality and efficiency of the education and training systems to promote school success. The project consortium includes Direção Geral de Educação, Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa, Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal, and Universidade de Aveiro. iNOVA Media Lab’s team is coordinated by Prof. Paulo Nuno Vicente (NOVA FCSH).

Although the digital educational resources are addressed to the students, the project will also provide scientific and didactic guidance for teachers of basic education, supporting their familiarization with digital learning environments. All features will be available in open access.

Being a project with a national scope, in a first phase, the digital resources will be tested with teachers and students in two schools (piloting), followed by dissemination to all Portuguese schools.
