NOVA FCSH, in partnership with Smooth FM and Sennheiser, presents “Binaural Listening Experience,” an iNOVA Media Lab immersive experience with musicians André Santos on the guitar, Ricardo Toscano on the saxophone, Romeu Tristão on the bass and Marta Garrett’s voice. The event will take place September 22 (19h), at the University Rectorate building’ s auditorium (Campolide Campus). For those who do not get the chance to be there, the concert will be broadcast live on Smooth FM.
What is binaural audio?
Binaural audio is a method of recording sound that intends to create a 3-D stereo sound sensation for the listener of actually having the performers or instruments around him/her. This technique creates a perfectly immersive sound, only achieved using headphones, recreating a perception of distance that is every audiophile’s dream.
The base trio for this performance is composed of three of the most active musicians of the Portuguese jazz scene. They are: Ricardo Toscano, young prodigy of the saxophone; André Santos, multi-interest guitarist who has played and recorded with various bands such as the Hot Club Jazz Orchestra, Teresa Salgueiro, Maria João, Carlos Bica or Mano a Mano; and Romeu Tristão, a young and dynamic bass player from bands such as the Ricardo Toscano Quartet and the Hot Club Septeto, who is also the host of the weekly mythic Jam Sessions of O Bom o Mau e o Vilão. Used to playing in different contexts, this trio plays melodies of the American songbook essentially, with a pure class and sensitivity.
For this concert, the trio invites Marta Garrett, a young singer who will brighten the show with her beautiful voice and compelling stage presence.
